State Conference (March 2025)

Last March, a group of our members attended the SPSEA State Conference to further their leadership abilities and attend professional development to better prepare themselves as aspiring educators. At this conference, University of Pittsburgh at Greensburg won awards for Program of the Year, and first place in Apex. Our students have worked hard to create multiple programs and events to benefit our community and our members alike. (Please note: This is in our APEX twice: both under Leadership/Membership Development and under Professional Development.)
Event Attendance:
Back row (L to R): Lex Hurey, Ben Myers, Gage Pahlman, Nick Malizia, Tyler Luffy, Cole Charles
Middle Row (L to R): Erika Christeleit, April Pompurra, Alice Evdokimova, Sage Blair, Emily Korinek, Abby Branik, Irelande Heidenfelder, Julia Garbinski
Front row: Sydney McLaughlin, Garrett Mock, Ashley Nairn
End of Year Celebration (April 2025)

Pitt-Greensburg SPSEA officers, advisors, and members gathered for one last meal together. Throughout the year, we accomplish so much as a club and celebrate it all at our end of year celebration! We honor our seniors and present them with their SPSEA stoles and recognize our officers and our event chairs. This is a great way to celebrate everything we did during the year!
Fall Activities Fair

The Fall Activities Fair is held at the beginning of the fall semester on campus. It provides the opportunity for clubs and organizations to showcase their missions and engage with all students. Pitt-Greensburg SPSEA set up a table to share information about our calendar, member benefits, and connecting on social media. We encouraged both new and returning students to get involved with our raffle and give-aways like pens, small notebooks, fidget rings, and blue and yellow UPG SPSEA bracelets. Raffle tickets were sold, with all proceeds supporting P.A.C.E.
Event Attendance:
(Picture left to right: McCall Feenan, Nicholas Malizia, Garrett Mock, and Isabella Hribal. April Pompura and many other participating members stopped, due to the nature of the event we do not have a participation list.
Fall Kick-Off Meeting

To start off the new academic year, our chapter held its Annual Kick-Off Meeting that was promoted at the Activities Fair. The chapter officers and our professors of education were introduced to familiarize new and returning members with who they are. During the meeting, all attendees received a copy of the fall calendar, and they were encouraged to become involved. There were also ice-breaker activities, and the prizes were handed out from the raffle winners from the Activities Fair.
During some of our general meetings, we have educational -- or just fun! -- "Make and Takes". Some of these have been teacher jars and a trail mix bar. Our members make the item after we are done reviewing the agenda and then they are able to take it home. This is a great way for us to build community and grow our relationships within SPSEA!
Note: This is not our trail mix bar. We forgot to take a photo
End of the semester: Cookie & Hot Chocolate
It has become a Pitt-Greensburg SPSEA tradition to end the semester with cookies and hot chocolate. This normally is at our last meeting, but due to some issues, we offered cookies baked by our professors and hot chocolate during exam week. We do this to lessen stress and bring cheer to everyone's day!

Note: There is no attendance
list for this as members could pop
in for cookies or hot chocolate
at any time during the day.
Induction Ceremony 2026

On February 19th, the University of Pittsburgh at Greensburg recognized their new members of SPSEA. Members recited an oath together and signed their name in our chapter book. This book has the signatures of many past SPSEA members in it. We invited loved ones to the induction ceremony and had light hors d'oeuvres. We also inducted new members to Pi Lambda Theta, the prestigious education honors society!
Regional Involvement:
SPSEA Members Holding Regional Positions

Pitt-Greensburg SPSEA members Gage Pahlman (Left) and April Pompura (right) hold Southwest Regional positions! Gage Pahlman (President) holds meetings for the region board and attends other chapter's general meetings. His mission this year was to enhance engagement and build relationships between the chapters in the Southwest Region. April Pompura (PACE Chair) shares PACE information and plans events that benefit PACE.

Spring Activities Fair

During our Spring Activities fair, our officers greeted potential members and returning members. We distributed our Spring 2026 calendar, PACE information, and SPSEA merchandise. The spring activities fair is a great way to recruit members and inform our current members of upcoming events!
Resume Writing Workshop

Our director of the education program, Dr. Melissa Marks, held a workshop to assist students in enhancing their resumes for future job interviews. Members came and learned about what they can put on their resume and how to format it to highlight their talents in the field of education.

Mini Workshop: Student PSEA New Teacher Tools and Loan Forgiveness

At a meeting on February 17, 2026, we had a mini-workshop focused on the information and benefits offered through Student PSEA's website. This included looking at the PSEA's Career Toolkit. Specifically, Dr. Marks, one of our advisors and a professor at the University of Pittsburgh at Greensburg, showed us the interactive salary map, the student debt resources for "degrees not debt", the member benefits, and the list of job openings. In all, this really helped us see the work that PSEA is doing to help us have a stronger future.
CPR Training Sessions

On October 7th, Student PSEA members had the opportunity to obtain their CPR certification. With this certification, our members can go into the field with the ease of mind knowing that they can jump into action if the worst occurs.
High School Aspiring Educators Visits

University of Pittsburgh-Greensburg hosted High School aspiring educators from Hempfield Area School District and Central Westmoreland Career and Technology Center (CWCTC) to give them an insight about the field of education and to introduce them to our education program. Students ate lunch with some of our current Student PSEA members and were able to ask their questions about our chapter, which was followed by a fun educational-themed game, whose winners received Pitt swag!
Communication to Other UPG SPSEA Members

Communicating with our members is essential! With a busy SPSEA schedule, it is a priority to have frequent communication! This includes emails each week about our upcoming events, sending meeting minutes after meetings, and emails regarding critical PSEA alerts!
Bi-Monthly Chapter Meetings
General meetings take place every two weeks. The SPSEA president creates an agenda that highlights key discussion points. During the meeting, the club reviews past events and future events are announced. Our meetings include an update from our Regional President, Regional PACE Director, and any chairperson updates. The secretary uses the meeting agenda to create meeting minutes, which are shared with all SPSEA members after each meeting. Included below are the meeting minutes from these meetings and attendance details.
